About the Role

Are you eager to contribute to a key player in the Belgian energy sector? Our client in the Energy Sector is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to support critical infrastructure and applications. You will work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure high availability, security, and performance of IT systems supporting energy operations.

As part of a team dedicated to sustainability and innovation, you will play a vital role in building a green and reliable energy infrastructure that drives economic growth while reducing environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in server architecture design and deployment of new applications and middleware.

Analyze requirements, design solutions, perform proof of concept (PoC) tests, and manage implementation projects.

Evaluate requirements against security and manageability considerations.

Serve as a technical interface for IT clients and stakeholders.

Provide third-line troubleshooting for complex issues.

Support daily operational tasks, including deploying and updating in-house applications (primarily Windows IIS & SQL-based environments).

Configure and manage F5 load-balancing VIPs for web applications.

Administer core supporting applications such as RabbitMQ, Redis Cache, and other shared technologies (knowledge of these tools is a plus).

Enforce and monitor security guidelines and standards.

Oversee monitoring, change, and patch management.

Deliver second and third-level support (including vendor escalations with Microsoft and other third parties).

Maintain up-to-date documentation for operations and installations.

Participate in a rotating on-call duty schedule (24/7 availability, approximately one week in six).

Requirements

Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience as a Systems Engineer in a complex environment.

Linux Expertise: Proven experience in supporting applications on Linux Red Hat (deploying applications, monitoring system health and performance, analyzing logs, scripting).

Windows Server Expertise: Recent expert-level experience with Windows Server (2012-2019).

Languages: Native French or Dutch speaker with proficiency in the other. English is mandatory for documentation and international meetings; German is a plus.

Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of IIS management and web deployment.

Broad IT expertise, including networking, security, end-user support, and ITIL concepts.

Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.

Knowledge of MS-SQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Neo4J, or Redis Cache is an advantage (training will be provided if needed).

Understanding of firewalls and network load balancing concepts (product-specific training will be provided).

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical skills for architectural and troubleshooting work.

Excellent organizational and planning abilities.

Team player with the ability to work independently.

Customer-oriented and pragmatic mindset.

Strong communication and presentation skills (Visio drawing skills are a plus).

Other Requirements:

Must possess a valid driver's license and car (necessary for the on-call duty role).

Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.

Eagerness to learn new technologies (expectation to acquire missing technical knowledge within a year).
