Service Description
As a Data Center Strategy Expert, you will design a robust and forward-looking data center strategy to enable the client's ongoing digital transformation and infrastructure modernization efforts. This strategy will guide the shift to a hybrid cloud environment, enhance application resilience, and support the increasing reliance on real-time and AI-driven operations critical to the energy sector.
You will align business objectives with technical solutions, evaluate various data center options, analyze constraints, and provide strategic recommendations and implementation plans.
Responsibilities
1. Needs Assessment
Align data center strategy with business objectives, including the hybrid cloud transition and application modernization.
Address capacity planning for resilient applications, testing environments, and redundant systems.
Define a phased roadmap for integrating systems, ensuring operational continuity in real-time environments.
Analyze trends such as the increasing complexity of energy systems and AI-driven applications.
2. Options Evaluation
Assess and compare options: co-location, building new data centers, and hybrid models.
Explore opportunities for edge computing in substations using virtual substation technology.
Deliver comprehensive cost-benefit analyses for various scenarios, emphasizing operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
3. Sovereign Cloud Expertise
Develop a strategy for incorporating sovereign cloud solutions into the infrastructure.
Assess implications for security, compliance, data sovereignty, and cost management.
Recommend the role of sovereign cloud in supporting critical applications and ensuring data resilience.
4. Constraints Analysis
Define approaches for redundancy, resiliency, and disaster recovery for high availability systems.
Assess the impact of network topology on data center location, size, and investments.
Outline infrastructure requirements for scalable, robust, and interconnected IT environments.
Deliverables
A comprehensive strategic document (What, Why, How) with scenarios, pros, and cons.
A phased implementation plan with detailed steps and timelines.
Cost-benefit analyses for selected scenarios.
Risk mitigation strategies for operational resilience.
A financial plan for implementation.
Requirements
Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in data center strategy development and implementation.
Proven expertise in co-location, new data center builds, and hybrid models.
Strong knowledge of sovereign cloud solutions, including implications for IT strategy, security, and compliance.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in hybrid and sovereign cloud infrastructure.
Knowledge of edge computing, virtual substation technology, and network backbone design.
Experience with resilience requirements for real-time operational IT applications.
Strategic Acumen
Strong ability to translate technical requirements into actionable strategies.
Proficient in cost-benefit analysis, risk management, and phased implementation planning.
Communication
Exceptional presentation and report structuring skills for executive decision-making.
Fluency in English (written and spoken); French or Dutch is a plus.
Work Style
Independent and self-driven, while aligning closely with internal teams.
